SHB Fun Facts
It is always fun to see who finds Sonoma's Housing Bubble interesting enough to read about, it is even more interesting to see how people have found the site.
The Sitemeter tracks basic traffic information such as Internet Service Provider and Domain Names, but it also shows the search terms used if a reader entered the site from the major search services such as Yahoo, Goog etc...
These are 15 of the most eye catching, actual search strings used that brought readers here this week:
1. I gave an employee a fraudulent check stub

I too have seen some remarkable search strings that ultimately led them to my blog somehow. But that first one you list takes the cake!
Also, you might have noticed that sometimes after the truncated IP in parantheses there is a name of either a pereson or an organization. It is often useful to do a search on that organization name because the names don't always indicate what business they are in. In this way I have found that a lot of real estate investing firms (who, I've noticed, sell their advice for thousands of dollars) visit my site. I am sure it is true for most bubble bloggers. I often wonder how much of what we bubble bloggers say ends up being published advice by these organizations and how much they profit from our "advice".
Grr.

Old intel trick to check for that -- give quirky or plausible-but-false "advice" and see where it turns up. Unique angles and/or phrasing and/or spellings for easier tracing.
yep Marinite... caught on to the IP thing and I am just amazed at who is reading and also who has subscriptions to the blog. Very impressive indeed.
I am sad that I only recently started making notes on the searches and so have missed the boat on some of the really hilarious ones posed by the most unlikely sources!
I usually use them as story ideas... and will continue to do so... but they are certainly escalating into the surreal zone and gives an interesting pin prick of light as to what people are really thinking.
